My Top 25 Albums & Movies Of 2024

25 Best Albums and Movies of 2024

I was able to watch most of the movies I was hoping to watch before making my list. But as always there was a handful I missed. Some of these include: Blitz, September 5, The Outrun, Heretic, Between the Temples, Bird, Oh, Canada, Small Things Like These, Last Summer, Dahomey, The Room Next Door, and literally 100’s of others.

I thought 2024 was a great year for movies. Of the 150ish I watched I would recommend probably 120 or so of them. So narrowing it down was tough. Normally I will make a little 15 second video edit if I like a movie throughout the year. Then after I make my favorite albums list (listened to 350ish this year) I add a song from each album to the correspondingly ranked film. The top 25 are what I countdown before adding an additional 25 or so movie edits with random 2024 songs scoring them.

This year I ended with over 80 film edits from movies I liked. Rather than narrow it down to only an additional 25 I decided screw it and counted up to 70. All movies I thought were fun and would definitely recommend.

My Favorite Movies & Albums of 2024

Top 25 Movies & Albums

#25 – Nosferatu Directed by Robert Eggers

Love me a big plate of Eggs. Nosferatu was my birthday movie this year and I can’t imagine a better way to have spent it than watching a big mustached Nos plague his way through 1800’s Germany.

#25 Album: Girl With No Face by Allie X

#24 – My Old Ass Directed by Megan Park

I don’t have much to say other than it hit just right when we watched it. Maisy Stella is great, hope to see more of her.

#24 Album: La Mer by Claude Fontaine

#23 – MadS Directed by David Moreau

I’m a sucker for long takes, but I think I would have liked this regardless of the single shot gimmick. A fun idea. Also I liked all 3 of the lead performances.

#23 Album: Dream Talk by Still Corners

#22 – Daaaaaalí! Directed by Quentin Dupieux

One of 3 2024 (US) released Quentin Dupieux films I watched. All 3 (Yannick and The Second Act being the other 2) were entertaining, but Daaaaaalí! was the one that stuck with me the most. I love that Dupieux has been on a Soderbergh pace.

#22 Album: To the Ghosts by Cults

#21 – A Different Man Directed by Aaron Schimberg

The movie that grew the most for me after watching. I enjoyed while watching, but it was really in the days and weeks after when the movie really burrowed its way into me.

#21 Album: The Journey Is Our Home by Bodies Of Water

#20 – Babygirl Directed by Halina Reijn

Harris Dickinson swinging in right at the end of the year for a second time (In 2023 it was Iron Claw) with one of my favorite performances. I really ended up liking this was less thrillery than I was led to believe.

#20 Album: All Born Screaming by St. Vincent

#19 – Red Rooms Directed by Pascal Plante

More effectively upsetting than a torture porn movie like Hostel or Martyrs. Also no other movie moment this year made me more uncomfortable than the violence free scene in the courtroom with the outfit.

#19 Album: THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT by Taylor Swift

#18 – Kneecap Directed by Rich Peppiatt

I thought all three leads were actors up until the photos at the end when I realized they were the real guys playing themselves. Just a fun movie.

#18 Album: Trois, Deux, Un by Juniore

#17 – Civil War Directed by Alex Garland

I unfortunately think I’m a Garland guy.

#17 Album: Sadness Sets Me Free by Gruff Rhys

#16 – Rebel Ridge Directed by Jeremy Saulnier

By far and away the best Netflix movie of the year. Only other one that came close was the similarly entertaining Carry-On.

#16 Album: Sun Without the Heat by Leyla McCalla

#15 – The Brutalist Directed by Brady Corbet

The last 2024 movie I watched and therefor the one I had the least time to really think about and sit with before finalizing my list. I could see this moving up to top 5 or falling off completely with a second viewing. Lots to read about this one which I love.

#15 Album: Miss Flower by Emilíana Torrini

#14 – Kinds of Kindness Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos

I love that Yorgos and Luca Guadagnino have somehow become the guys releasing multiple studio pictures within a calendar year.

Has the vibes of his pre The Favorite films, luckily I like each era of his equally.

#14 Album: Bright Future by Adrianne Lenker

#13 – Love Lies Bleeding Directed by Rose Glass

Not a comment on the movie, but this combination of song and movie clip in the video I made was by far my favorite. I had 2 other edits I liked just as much. Definitely the hardest edit I had to choose from.

#13 Album: Rhumba Country by Pokey LaFarge

#12 – Chicken for Linda! Directed by Chiara Malta & Sébastien Laudenbach

Pretty accurate depiction of police (scared of children playing, tricked easily, not a lot of convincing to shoot gun). Honestly just a nice movie to sit with.

#12 Album: BRAT by Charli xcx

#11 – La Chimera Directed by Alice Rohrwacher

I would say that the ladies steal the show in this since I like them all, but I like dirty Josh O’Connor just as much.

#11 Album: News of the Universe by La Luz

#10 – Queer Directed by Luca Guadagnino

The most I have been confused about a movies reception all year. I hadn’t heard a single good thing from critics I normally align with about Queer so I was very surprised when I finally watched it that it rocked. Great look, mood, and score.

#10 Album: HIT ME HARD AND SOFT by Billie Eilish

#9 – The Taste of Things Directed by Trần Anh Hùng

My wife asked what she missed while in the bathroom and I told her that an egg was peeled and a chicken was wrapped in cloth and dunked in a broth. So some good shit.

Was very stressed every time Violette walked up those stairs with a tray of food.

#9 Album: Visions by Norah Jones

#8 – I Saw the TV Glow Directed by Jane Schoenbrun

Filming and mood evokes a feeling I can remember from Jr/High School of an end of the school year event. A night that was fun with friends, but as the sky grows darker, friends begin to leave and the uncertainty of what will come next in life begins to creep in. Its exciting, but a little unnerving. Something you are not sure you want to stay in. Feels like all of this was filmed at that specific time of night.

#8 Album: Mahashmashana by Father John Misty

#7 – Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Directed by George Miller

Makes me want to immediately throw on Fury Road (in a good way). The first set piece with Tom Burke is right up there with any of the action scenes I remember in the proceeding film set in the future.

#7 Album: What A Devastating Turn of Events by Rachel Chinouriri

#6 – Mars Express Directed by Jérémie Périn

So many interesting concepts stuffed inside 90 minutes.

#6 Album: THE VANDALIST by Noga Erez

#5 – Hundreds of Beavers Directed by Mike Cheslik

After a half hour I thought I might dislike this movie. But then it just keeps building and building until it became undeniable.

#5 Album: Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me by Porridge Radio

#4 – Dune: Part Two Directed by Denis Villeneuve

A spectacle.

#4 Album: Eye To The Ear by Cosmo Sheldrake

#3 – Challengers Directed by Luca Guadagnino

Heard this was good before it came out, then literally everyone I talked to in person that had watched it thought it was mid, slow, or weird. Not sure if my expectations getting knocked back down helped, but I absolutely loved it.

#3 Album: Traumatic Livelihood by Jazmin Bean

#2 – Anora Directed by Sean Baker

Thought I might have a hard time believing Mikey Madison after watching her in Better Things for years. She killed it though. Great goons. Love those guys.

#2 Album: Trail Of Flowers by Sierra Ferrell

#1 – The Substance Directed by Coralie Fargeat

Why I like watching movies.
