2021, at age 33, I decided to start reading comics. I’ve ready a few in the past. Your Watchmen’s and what not. But other than big “Important” titles, I never really dipped into the genre. Comics always seemed too large and expansive for my completionist mind to start.
But, in the fall of 2021 I (my wife) had my first child. Babies are mostly shitty (literally) potatoes for the first months, so I ended up doing a lot of sitting/laying next to them. I found that the colorful pages of comics kept my babies eyes more than the black and white of my book pages, so I began to dive into them more and more. No better mind shaper than Junji Ito!
I still read a few non-comics in 2021, but for the most part I stuck to the more visual medium.
