Like previous years this video was made by making my top movies list and top albums list separately and then combining the lists together and putting a song from my favorite album over a 15 secodish clip from the corresponding movie.
I thought it was a pretty fun year of movies. Watched a little less movies released this year than I did last year (like 115 compared to 140), but more movies in total (291 to 265). A lot of that was doing some directors filmographies, filling in some older movie blind spots, and doing an excessive amount of Halloween movies.
The big movies I didn’t get to from the last year that I wish I had are:
Resurrection, Frankenstein, Die My Love, Griffin In Summer, I’m Still Here, Roofman, Caught Steeling, A House Of Dynamite, Eden, After The Hunt, Twinless, Oh Hi!, Dangerous Animals, Dracula (Radu Jude one), Father Mother Sister Brother, Housemaid, Grand Tour, Parthenope, Escape From The 21st Century, Misericordia, The Threesome, Left Handed Girl, Borderline, Sparrow and the Chimney, Suspended Time, Eternity, The Gorge, The Damned, Grafted, Julie Keeps Quiet, and so many others.
I’m counting Dead Mans Wire, Should Of Falling, Arco, Magellan, A Useful Ghost, Pillion, Scarlet, The Chronology Of Water as all 2026, because if they did have a release at all, it was so incredibly minimal, and because I didn’t see them, so they are nowhere to be found on this list.

As for albums, I believe I listened to more this year than any previous in my life. Somewhere around 500 new 2025 albums. Despite how many new ones I listened to, I still found myself gravitating towards artists I have known and liked previous work from instead of completely new discoveries. Although saying this made me look back at the last few years to see how many from each year were completely new to me from that year when they appeared.
2024: 5 – Allie X, Adrianne Lenker, Pokey LaFarge, Rachel Chinouriri, Jazmin Bean.
2023: 11 – Dream Sitch, Molly Tuttle, Yaeji, Katie Gately, Altin Gün, Nighttime, Pearla, Holy Hive, Raye, Susanne Sundfør, Steady Holiday.
2022: 5 – Stanley Brinks and Freschard, CMAT, Townland, Rosalia, Benjamin Clementine.
I’m not even going to try and remember who I knew and didn’t know from any year previous to 2022. But I guess looking at those numbers it isn’t that wild with 3 new (Maggie Koerner, Sabine McCalla, Helen Ganya) for this year. Less than other years, but not all that different, except for 2023 when I was off on one apparently.
And usually with musicians I’ve known before, its not that I was super aware of them, more that I I liked one or two of their songs from an older album or EP from the last decade or so. Like from this year Princess Nokia, Margo Price, Obongjayar, Men I Trust, Hayley Williams, Kassi Valazza, Lael Neale were all ones that could fit into that bucket. I just have an app, MuiscHarbor, that compiles all the artists I’ve ever liked a song by in Spotify and will tell me if they have released a new album. So I will check that every few weeks and prioritize those albums being served up to me higher than other ones by artists I’ve never heard. But this year I will try and make an effort to listen to more new as well.
